Startech

Stages To Business Success

EXPERIENCE you can count on

The ideas and the detailed plans behind STARTECH have been developed by a team of Scottish businessmen with considerable experience in technology based industries
- specifically in creating successful start-ups.

Within the STARTECH organisation there is a pool of Associate Directors, each of whom has a proven track record in a technology related field, and has committed to spending at least fifty days per year working with STARTECH and its start-up companies.

STARTECH’s professional advisers include KPMG, Murray Beith Murray and other organisations, all with a history of involvement in technology based start-up companies, who have shared their experience with us, and generously supported the development of our methodologies and structure.

STARTECH will examine potential projects from a wide variety of sources and will seek to identify situations where there is a good fit between the entrepreneurial team, its products and markets, and the capabilities and strategy of STARTECH.

This will be done initially through documentation and informal discussions. Where there is mutual interest in working together, the project will move into the formal STARTECH management process:

EVALUATION AND SELECTION
Over a preliminary evaluation session, the entrepreneurial team, its product and its plans are reviewed with STARTECH management and Associate Directors. Where all the parties involved wish to work together, we move to the next stage.

PROJECT PLANNING
An overall project implementation plan is agreed. This includes the product marketing plan, and defines all of the support to be provided by STARTECH up to Second Stage Funding and independent operation. At the end of this planning phase, an agreement is signed committing both parties to the project and the arrangements on costs and equity.

IMPLEMENTATION
The entrepreneurial team moves into the STARTECH project phase, but operationally is managed as an independent business. STARTECH takes responsibility for providing the seed capital required at this stage in the project, and also provides on-going support as appropriate, covering a range of management and business services including:-

• accommodation, office services and information services.
• personnel services, payroll, recruitment, training etc.
• management accounting, reporting and control services.
• business planning.
• technical specialist support.
• marketing, sales and distribution.
• management monitoring and coaching.
• liaison with the financial community.
• access to extensive networks of contacts.
• management of the Second Stage Funding process.

This support will be provided by STARTECH management, the Associate Director assigned to the project, other Associate Directors whom he may call in, and experts drawn from the STARTECH database.

SECOND STAGE FUNDING.
The objective of the STARTECH project phase is to transform the project into a real business with customers, products, turnover and profits, enabling STARTECH and the business to negotiate Second Stage Funding from a position of strength.
